BGMEA Appoints Md. Shahmij Bokul as Chairman of Standing Committee on Small Cottage Industry
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has appointed Md. Shahmij Bokul, Managing Director of B A Fashionwear Ltd., as the Chairman of the BGMEA Standing Committee on Small Cottage Industry. The appointment reflects BGMEA’s commitment to strengthening Bangladesh’s small and cottage-based garment enterprises and promoting more inclusive industrial growth.
The nomination was announced by Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of BGMEA, who emphasized the importance of empowering small-scale manufacturers that play a vital role in the country’s textile and apparel supply chain.
Strengthening Bangladesh’s Garment Ecosystem
Bangladesh has earned global recognition as one of the world’s leading apparel exporters. While large export-oriented factories drive the majority of garment exports, thousands of small and cottage industries contribute significantly through garment accessories, subcontracting, packaging materials, printing, trims, labels, logistics, and other value-added services.
These enterprises provide employment opportunities for thousands of skilled workers and entrepreneurs while supporting the overall competitiveness of the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector.
The newly formed Standing Committee aims to bridge the gap between large manufacturers and small enterprises by creating a stronger platform for collaboration, innovation, and sustainable business development.
